A deeper shade of purple

Category music
Those who know me will be aware that my favourite band of all time is Deep Purple. What fewer people will know is that the band were named after a song of the same name from the 1930s, of which Ritchie (ex Deep Purple guitarist) Blackmore's grandmother was particularly fond.

I've known the Nino Temple and April Stevens version of the song for years, as it was on a compilation LP (yes, LP) I bought while at university. But I wasn't aware of the long and distinguished history of the song until this blog entry was published yesterday.

Every cloud has a silver lining

Sadly I was unable to get to Nick Harper's gig on Saturday at the 100 Club, for various reasons.

It was, of course, no small consolation being able to instead watch England beat France in the 6 Nations. But I still would rather have been at the gig.

Oh well, there are more gigs in the current tour - and I'll try to get to at least one of them, even if it does mean rather further to travel.

I'm a highway star

So, it's official: on July 30th, two of the best things in life will come together in London. Yes, Deep Purple and cars!

The Purps are the final act in the week-long Motor Show Music Festival at ExCeL in London Docklands.

It'll be a big change from playing in the Kremlin, that's for sure.

Oh, and if you don't get the reference in the title, 'Highway Star' is the title of a song they've been performing for a very long time

Hyperion Records launches new classical music search

Category hyperion classicalmusic music search hyperionrecords axiot
Axiot develops new search engine for Hyperion Records I don't intend to blow my own trumpet with EVERY piece of news from my business blog, but as classical music is an interest of mine, in this instance I can't resist. Today is the launch of the hew 'advanced search' capability for Hyperion Records.

This was developed by Axiot, and provides a powerful and very detailed searchable database of the entire Hyperion Records catalogue. If you're interested in classical music, particular vocal/choral and chamber music, check it out at the Hyperion website.
