UKLUG 2009 is filling up fast

Category uklug
As was announced on Monday, by Warren and some of the other organisers, the UKLUG 2009 event is now officially open for registration for attendees, speakers and sponsors. This year it's in Edinburgh on 8th and 9th October and, as before, it's FREE at attend.

Having taken a look at the number of people who've already registered in the last 2 days, I can tell you it's filling up fast. So don't hang about - put those dates in your diary, and get over to the site and register. If you want to speak - and there is room for more speaking sessions at the moment - you'll need to register first, then you can log into your 'My Profile' page on the site and click 'Propose Session' to upload your session abstract. Similarly, if you want to sponsor - the more the merrier - again you'll need to register first and then log in an access the sponsorship information via your profile page.

Today is a special day

Yes, not only is today the 2nd day of the 2nd UKLUG, but today is also International Talk Like a Pirate day.

So, other Julian, I hope you're leading by example ...

It's that time again - yes, UKLUG

The dust has settled, the livers have returned to their normal sizes, the wounds are mainly healed ... and ILUG2008 is a distant memory and, dare I say it, a legend.

All of which means that it's time for another user group. So, this morning Warren has posted more details about the next UKLUG event in central London in September.

We still have space for more attendees (obviously - although a lot of people are already registered); but also for speakers and sponsors who should email info@uklug.info for information.

See you in September...

UK Lotus User Group 2008 meeting

Category uklug
The plans for the 2008 UK Lotus User Group (UKLUG) meeting are underway. It's going to be in London, on the 18th and 19th September, and we will be catering for a larger number than last time. Our most urgent challenge is that we still don't have a venue. If you know of a good conference facility in London, capable of catering for 200+ people, we would love to hear from you! The simplest way to get in touch is to email Warren on warren[at]elsmore.net.

Of course, we'll also be looking for speakers and sponsors, so if you want to jump in there too, feel free.

See Warren's post for more details.

Back from UKLUG and recovering

The first UKLUG event came and went and was, it seems, generally well received.

After arriving at 7am to help set up, I spent most of the day in the 'hands-on lab'. If you've followed Paul/Warren/Matt's blogs (see my blogroll) you'll have realised that the one thing that IBM overlooked when they imaged 20 laptops for us ... was to tell us the Windows password. So we didn't actually start installing the software for the lab until nearly 9am. But by 11am we had a Domino8 server, a SameTime 7.5.1 server, a Quickr8 server, and Notes 8 running on 8 PCs (two of the ten just refused to install Notes - why does that happen?!), and our composite application demo working and showing Notes + Domino + web + web-service content.

We had some good feedback in the lab, with people being able to get their hands on some of the software for the first time.

The drinks reception in the evening was fun, although there weren't quite enough hats to go around!

"Coming out"

Category uklug blogging
Finally I've caved in to pressure and peered over the parapet into the blogosphere.

Mainly, I wanted to say what a privilege it is to be part of the forthcoming UK Lotus User Group team with the inestimable Warren Elsmore, Darren Adams, Kitty Elsmore, Matt White, Eileen Fitzgerald, Paul Mooney and Bill Buchan. That's not a complete list of names of all those contributing, but I'm running the risk of sounding like an oscars speech, which wouldn't be a good way to start the blogging life.

Anyway, my part in the arrangements is very small, but I'm glad to be contributing and hope and believe that it will lead to greater things for the Lotus community in the UK.

This blog will be updated regularly, honest. I did say 'regularly' and not 'frequently' (look them up), although I'll be aiming for the latter service level as well.

Cheers ... onwards and upwards ...
